Consistent mare Majestic Ga Ga (Majestic Son) made it two on end when she swept home to win the Group 3 JP’s Sports Bar Trotters Sprint at Gloucester Park on Friday evening.

Harness racing fans were treated to the return of trotters for the new season at Gloucester Park and on the strength of his previous wins Grumpee was installed a hot favourite. However to the dismay of punters Grumpee galloped wildly as the mobile was released and that was the end of his chances as he tailed out to a conspicuous last.

Both My Lightning McQueen and Majestic Ga Ga flew out of the mobile when released but with the advantage of the inside draw My Lightning McQueen was able to hold the lead. Emily Suvaljko on Majestic Ga Ga wisely took the trail. The rest of the field behind seemed to have trouble keeping up to the leaders and it was obvious a long way from home that these two would be fighting out the finish.

They drew clear of the rest along the back straight and Suvaljko eased Majestic Ga Ga out for her run on the final bend. My Lightning McQueen showed plenty of fight but Majestic Ga Ga was too strong winning by just under one and a half metres with Aldebaran Sundown some 20 metres away in third place after sitting back three back on the rails for the trip.

Emily Suvaljko reflected on her success.

It was always a concern that Grumpee was going to do things wrong. And hadn’t long been back in the draw. And obviously drawing down low as well. It gets a little bit harder.

It’s really good to have such a bulletproof trotter. She’s got that really good gait speed and that’s going to win her a lot of races.

Suvaljko was not surprised at her recent good form.

We knew from day dot she was quite clever. She actually works with some of our pacers and can beat them if she leads up. She’s actually the horse I’ve ever won most races on so she’s been really good for my career and it was really good to get the victory on her.

The mare has proved to be a wonderful addition to her new owners who purchased her from Victoria for a reputed $18,000 where she was trained by Mary-Jane Mifsud. Early in her career Majestic Ga Ga made plenty of mistakes but since her first start in the West at Pinjarra  in April she’s had eleven wins and eight placings and lifetime earnings of $155,716.

Now prepared by Michael Young, Majestic Ga Ga is sure to be one of the favourites for the next trotters feature in the West namely the Group 2 $50,000 Trotters Cup on 30 January at Gloucester Park over 2503 metres.  However My Lightning McQueen will also be improved from last night’s effort. Grumpee will be a key question mark and he’ll need to be on his best behaviour if he lines up for the event.
