Major Secret is undoubtedly one of the best-bred harness racing sons of Art Major who has done a remarkable job at stud given the small numbers of mares he has had in the handful of seasons he has stood at stud.
He has produced two top-quality two-year-olds of last season in Big Jim Major (1.56.1) and Star Man.
Major Secret has three yearlings nominated for this month’s Southern Stars Yearling Sale Lot 14 will be the last lot to go through the ring at the Gawler and Barossa Jockey Club on February 11, but this colt will be worth waiting for.
Out of Million To One mare Bitta Sweet Lombo who has had five to race all have been winners.
The second dam of this colt, “Indyanne Lombo” is the dam of Group 1 winner Leilani Lombo.
This handsome colt was bred by Heath Posgate a South Australian who is now based at Lara near Geelong and Posgate has been a strong supporter of the South Australian Yearling Sale.
“This colt is the last out of Bitta Sweet Lombo, we, unfortunately, lost her after foaling,” Posgate said.
Heath Posgate who was born around horses his father Fred trained for many years at Globe Derby before moving to the Mildura region.
Heath got the breeding bug at an early age when he worked with Scott and Mandy Pascoe at Ningana Park in the days when the Pascoe’s stood stallions on the property, “I have always loved breeding and learned a lot from Scott and Mandy” he said.
“This colt we had at home here in Lara and he developed into a lovely type, we sent him over to Steve (Stephen Norman at Allenby Lodge) who has put the polish on him” Posgate added.
Major Secret has done a wonderful job, in the breeding barn with a limited number of mares He is a dual Group 1 winner who held a world record when he won the NSW Derby as a three-year-old.
The sale kicks off at 1.15 pm on Sunday, February 11, A yearling parade will start at 10.30 am with breakfast being provided. You can inspect all yearlings before noon and 1 pm if you’re going make sure you take the time to inspect Lot 14 you will not be disappointed.
