Kari Males would love to give reinsman Michael Bellman his maiden Group 1 harness racing triumph in Saturday night’s Art Major Vicbred Super Series for three-year-old colts and geldings final.
The reinsman will partner the Kari Males-prepared Sergeant Lou (Sweet Lou) for the $150,000 event.
“It would be good if he could win it (a Group 1),” Males said
Bellman has driven over 1940 winners without a top-level success.
“He is well overdue,” she laughed.
The colt out of Bellas Delight finished third and fifth in the heats and semi-final respectively.
“He is fit and ready to go, I think he has improved off the heat and semi-final run,” she said.” He was working up his fitness, but we think he is right for Saturday night.”
The pacer is coming off a fifth place showing in last Saturday night’s semi – final at Melton.
“They just walked and ran a sizzling last quarter, so he was doing a lot of the work,” Males from Bolinda, said.
The winner of close to $94,000 has drawn one for the 2240m trip.
“We are very happy with the draw,” she said.
Winner of the first semi-final, the Emma Stewart-prepared Best Deal has drawn 12 for the final with Mark Pitt set to pilot the colt. Stablemate and winner of the second semi-final Kingman will start from nine for the $150,000 event.
The Art Major Vicbred Super Series for three-year-old colts and geldings final is set to go at 7.40pm.
