Manners to take Finn all-the-way

Producing his best to score at Club Menangle a fortnight ago, enigmatic trotter Finn Runs Red only needs to keep his manners in-check to win again when he returns to the world-class harness racing venue on Tuesday (Aug. 23).

Although he has shown talent this preparation, the son of Trixton has been a handful for respected trainers Joe and Mary Rando.

The prominent couple have given Finn Runs Red four starts this season for two wins and two unplaced efforts when his manners proved less than reliable!

“He’s a difficult horse,” Joe said. “He’d have to be the hardest horse I’ve broken in!

“The ability is there but his brain isn’t at the same level at this point.

“We did a bit of work on him again two starts ago when he galloped and then he went terrific a couple of weeks ago.

“His track work since has been top notch and I think we’re starting to win with him.”

To be driven by Cameron Hart, Finn Runs Red has drawn barrier nine against older rivals.

Despite the arduous task ahead, the three-year-old heads betting markets at $2.80.

Set to have his first start since last September, Leaf Stride is considered the main danger at $3.20 from gate 10.

On the subject of comebacks, rising star squaregaiter Have No Fear will make his racing return following an eight-month absence.

Poised to make his debut for local horseman Brad Abbott – who also trains Leaf Stride – Have No Fear hasn’t raced since his disappointing run against free-for-all company in Melton on December 10.

In what is a drop in class for the trotter, Have No Fear has drawn barrier seven.

A Group One winning son of Father Patrick, Have No Fear has won seven of his 17 starts, with three placings also to his credit.
