“He is a goofy horse” – that is what champion reinsman Luke McCarthy said about his second Inter Dominion heat winner Expensive Ego at Tabcorp Park Menangle tonight.
The four-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven horse worked his way to the lead in the $30,000 qualifier and dominated his heat winning by 12m and rating 1:55.3.
He ran close to identical closing quarters to that of his stablemate King Of Swing in the previous Inter Dominion heat, clocking the last two splits in 27.8 and 26 seconds.
“He’s a great horse this horse, he has no bottom to him,” said McCarthy.
“He’s still learning how to race, he can goof around but he was sharp tonight . . . I like the way he ran that last quarter.”
After a lead time of 58.1 seconds, the quarters were then rated in 30.3, 29.7, 27.8 and 26 seconds.
Horsewoman Belinda McCarthy trained the quinella with Alta Orlando finishing second and her former pacer Balraj, who is now in the care of Jack Trainor, was third.
