Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) was disappointed to hear New South Wales Harness Racing Club (NSWHRC) had announced its decision regarding Carnival dates publicly without talking to HRV.
“Clearly a clash of carnivals is not in the best interests of the industry and its participants,” HRV CEO John Anderson said this morning.
“As late as Friday we put a position to New South Wales Harness Racing Club, so it was disappointing they announced their decision without talking to HRV.”
Mr Anderson said HRV would now attempt to reorganise its Summer of Glory carnival dates.
“It’s important for the participants that these two carnivals are both successful,” Mr Anderson said.
“HRV will enter into a consultation process with its clubs and industry groups to find a solution.
“It's easier said than done in a very busy and changing calendar, but it has to happen if NSW is pushing ahead with its dates.
“It's in nobody's interest to have a situation where the same horses cannot run in a Victoria Cup and Miracle Mile.”
