Generous donation to HERO Program

Kilmore Racing Inc’s ongoing commitment to life after racing has been reinforced with a generous donation to support retired standardbreds via Harness Racing Victoria's (HRV) HERO Program.

Utilising the proceeds of a successful life after racing celebration in September, the team at Kilmore Racing has sponsored personalised presentation dress rugs for HERO Ambassadors Franco Heir and Villagem.

The club has also provided a donation to support the training of a retired standardbred who has been identified as a potential Victoria Police Mounted Division recruit.

The Mounted Division presently comprises three off the track standies who have transitioned seamlessly into their new role.

Kilmore Racing Inc. CEO Ben Murphy said the club was proud to collaborate with HERO, which is the umbrella organisation for HRV's life after racing initiatives.

“We were thrilled to bring the three codes together to showcase the many and varied options which are now available to retired race horses and greyhounds in Victoria,” he said.

“The community has the highest expectations when it comes to animal welfare within the racing industry and it is our belief that race clubs have an obligation to promote and assist life after activities.

“HERO is a new initiative with enormous potential. We hope our small contribution will help to further build the program’s profile and enable even more retired and unsuccessful standardbreds to move on to a productive life beyond racing.”
