Rugby league great Benji Marshall is urging everyone to join him at Club Menangle on 2 September for the inaugural running of the world’s richest harness racing event – the TAB Eureka.
One of Western Sydney’s favourite sons has signed on as an official ambassador for the event, which will see 10 of the best pacers in Australia battle it out for the $2.1 million prize pool.
“It’s a privilege to be an ambassador for the TAB Eureka. It’s not something I thought I’d get the opportunity to do. I do like a bit of harness racing and I’m incredibly proud that it’s being hosted for the first time here in Western Sydney, a community that has been a big part of me and where I’m from,” Benji said.
The 2005 NRL Grand Final hero and Wests Tigers head coach in waiting was given a first-hand introduction to one of the stars of the TAB Eureka, meeting locally stabled pacer My Ultimate Ronnie and his trainer Jarrod Alchin.
My Ultimate Ronnie was one of the first pacers to secure a spot in the race under the new and exciting slot-holder system. With just three weeks to go until the big race eight of the 10 slots have now been announced.
“The one thing you can’t pick up watching the races on TV is just what finely tuned specimens these animals are so to be right up next to them and alongside one of the best pacers in Australia was an absolute treat,” Benji said.
“To see him go head-to-head with some of the best in Australia at the best track in Australia is going to be awesome so get down here!”
The TAB Eureka will be complemented by a blockbuster race program on the track and a first-class suite of entertainment throughout the evening.
ARIA-award winning rock band Birds of Tokyo will be the headline act while highly acclaimed singer, radio and TV star Ricki-Lee Coulter will be performing the national anthem prior to the feature race.
“Just being a part of the build-up it’s easy to see how massive and special this event is going to be. And with entertainment like that performing live there really is going to be something for everyone,” Benji said.
“You’re going to see 10 of the best pacers in the country going head-to-head and on top of that it’s the richest harness race in the world so for me it’s a big thing to be a part of, especially right here in Western Sydney.”
“It’s a great spot to bring your friends out, enjoy each other’s company and watch the richest race in the world. We’ve got the TAB Eureka but not only that the atmosphere is going to be pumping and electric. You’ve got to get down here.”
