Monarch Farm, located in the picturesque Scenic Rim region of South East Queensland, just 50 minutes from Brisbane, has been the birthplace of countless Group winning juveniles down through the years.
Tip Your Hat, the winner of the Breeders Crown and Queensland Derby, The Peace Maker, the dual Oaks winner All Promises, the QBred Triad victors Betterthanspecial and Bettor Promise, the trotter Tough Monarch and more recently, the Paleface Adios Classic winner Hold Onto Ya Bling and the APG Brisbane Graduate winner Balboa Rock are just a few of the top performers bred and raised on the property.

The farm, which has stood up to a dozen stallions including the colonial bred Speed King, is owned and managed by Margaret Donohoe, a member of a well known harness racing family from Sydney.
Donohoe will present five youngsters – two for Monarch Farm and three for clients – at the Garrard’s Redcliffe Yearling Sale, to be conducted by Darren Ebert and Co at the Redcliffe Paceway on Sunday, April 6.
The Monarch Farm draft – both colts – are the last foals of their dams.
Lot 25, a tall, leggy colt by the richest pacing stallion of all-time and emerging, young sire McWicked 1:46.4 ($5.1 million), is out of the Fake Left mare My Kind Of Girl, the dam of three sub 2:00 winners and a sister to the Triad winners Maximillion and Making Magic.
The other colt is Lot 30, a well grown youngster from the first crop of the USA Breeders Crown champion Dancin Lou 1:47.4 ($1.1 million) from the prolific Albion Park winner Gidup Tuscany Gold 1:53.6 ($99,059), whose first four foals are winners.
Monarch Farm is also preparing a lovely filly by the USA 3YO Colt and Aged Pacer of the Year Bettor’s Wish 1:47.6 ($2.6 million) for retired bookmaker Lindsay Gallagher. The second foal of the American Ideal mare Emerging Talent (1:55.1), she’s closely related to the Grand Circuit stars Bling It On and Baby Bling.
Lot 31, a rangy bay colt consigned by prominent Redcliffe horsewoman Aileen Smith and her father Cliff Gassman, is a son of the former Australian 2YO Colt of the Year and promising sire The Storm Inside. He’s the third foal of the Albion Park winner Idontneedluck (1:57.6), whose first two progeny are winners.
The last but certainly not the least of the Donohoe draft is Lot 43, a colt by the champion colt pacer and sire Captaintreacherous consigned by breeder-owner Keith Croft. He’s the first foal of the Bettor’s Delight mare Joy To All, a sister to five 2:00 winners including the QBred Triad 2YO winner Jiggle And Jive 1:52.1 ($116,365), Betting Baron ($157,371) and Just Joshin ($138,081).
Yearlings are eligible for the Redcliffe Sales Race Classics for two and three-year-olds carrying a guaranteed $175,000 in prizemoney. They are also eligible for the $4million QBred scheme, NSW Breeders Challenge, Vicbred, Bathurst Gold Crown and Cobbity Equine Classic.
