Steven Duffy followed his father into harness racing, taking out a trainer’s license in 1981 when he was still a teenager.
All these years later, through some highs and lows, he is still striving for the next success.
No bigger highlight came than winning last year’s Inter Dominion with Boncel Benjamin as an owner, while others to evoke fond memories through race wins have have been good horses like McGyver, Plettonic, We Dare To Dream and Almost El Eagle.
“Almost El Eagle, I loved him,” Duffy told Trots Life. “He was only about 14:3 (hands) and he was a ripper from day dot, won the Lombo early, and won country cups (at St Arnaud and Gunbower).”

On Saturday night at Tabcorp Park Melton Duffy trains Spring Line in the $50,000 Alabar Vicbred Platinum Home Grown Classic final for three-year-old colts and geldings. Click here to view fields.
In a twist of fate, Duffy’s wife Julie part-owns rival Amoldo with Fiona McGuigan, wife of that horse’s trainer Tim McGuigan.
“We are all friends, the whole family, so we bought this (horse) at the weanling sales at Shepparton,” he said.
