History-making pacer Maajida (Somebeachsomewhere) has run her last race with connections retiring the multiple Group 1 harness racing winner to begin a career in the breeding barn.
The Emma Stewart-trained five-year-old finished fifth in Saturday nightās (Jul. 23) Queen of Hearts Pace at Albion Park to leave her overall record at 24 wins from 44 starts.
Bred and owned by the Johnson family and raced under the Atworthy Park banner, Maajida became the first pacing filly/mare to win Vicbred Super Series titles at two, three and four years of age on December 31, 2021.
The Breeders Crown 2YO Fillies Final in 2019 was her other Group 1 success and her biggest payday with a $150,000 winnerās cheque.
Greg Sugars drove Maajida in 35 of her 44 races and expressed his love for the mare on Twitter.
āIt has been an absolute pleasure to be involved in her amazing career,ā Sugars wrote.
āShe will remain one of my all time favourites. Thanks for the memories. Iām (sure) she will have an equally successful career in the breeding barn.ā
Maajida retires as the richest daughter of Somebeachsomewhere, with $684,518 in prizemoney.
