He can be a bit naughty and tonight he was far from perfect in the warm-up but ended up putting on a harness racing show of the highest quality.
Catch A Wave (Captaintreacherous) was brutal with his crushing victory in the $300,000 (Group One) Mimosa Homes 2yo Colts and Geldings Breeders Crown Final at Tabcorp Park Melton tonight.
Catch A Wave initially didn’t want to go out onto the track and once he got there had to be shadowed twice around the track by the clerk of the course.
It was a hard watch for an emotional trainer Andy Gath.
“Watching the warm up was hard to watch. Once he scored up I was pretty confident even when he started to over race a little bit,” he said after the race
“He is very special, he is very hard to deal with but Kate’s dad has done a lot of work with him and sorted him out a fair bit.”
“We are here today because all my staff work really hard and because of the owners that support us especially Richard and Pauline Matthews who own this one,” he said.
Driver Kate Gath grabbed her second Crown for the night.
Catch A Wave paced the 2240m Mobile in 2:42.0 with a scintillating final 800m in 54.5 seconds and has now won six of his seven career starts.
