Harness racing’s history books need to be rewritten following a performance of pure domination at Launceston on Saturday night.
Reinsman Mark Pitt drove a record nine winners at the meeting and they were all trained by Victorian horsewoman Emma Stewart.
No other driver or trainer in Australian harness racing history has ever reached that many wins at one meeting.
Stewart eclipsed her own record of training eight winners on the one program that she achieved at Melton on June 29, 2018.
The only other trainer to achieve eight wins at one meeting was Shayne Cramp at Mildura on July 15, 2014.
As for drivers, the most wins driven at one meeting in Australia was six.
That was achieved by 24 different drivers including the likes of Chris Alford, Gavin Lang, Kerryn Manning, Todd and Luke McCarthy and Gary Hall Jnr to name a few.
There were 10 races at Launceston tonight and the only race Pitt or Stewart did not win was for horses trained by someone that trained 10 or less winners last season.
For the record Stewart and Pitt’s winners were Go Dancing, Rock Artist, Runaway Celebrity, Soho Historia, Firerockfireroll, Longfellow, Von Art, Beach Life and Captain Rival.
The highlight amongst these winners was Longfellow that won the $100,000 Group 1 Easter Cup with Stewart’s other runner in the feature, Like A Wildfire, finishing second.
