A number of unbeaten two-year-olds will be aiming to keep their records in tact at today’s (Aug. 16) Menangle harness racing meeting.
With heats of the Nutrien Equine series on, the first of those undefeated horses is Victorian pacer Captain Hammerhead (Captaintreacherous) in race three who has had two starts to date for trainer Rodney Lakey and driver Nathan Jack.
He will face the Nathan Purdon-trained Our Vinnie (Vincent) who won his debut start in Victoria last Friday week as well as the Emma Stewart-trained Major Celebrity (Art Major) who has won his two starts to date.
In the other colts and geldings qualifier, race five, it is the Victorian pacer Dangerous (Sweet Lou) looking to remain unbeaten as he faces his third start.
The Shane Sanderson-prepared colt will have his first interstate start after an impressive performance on debut at Hamilton where he rated 1:54.9.
Meanwhile, if Stewart is successful in one of today’s qualifiers she will be on track to achieve her 100th Group 1 victory.
Stewart has 99 Group 1 victories to her credit and will hoping to secure a spot in the inaugural $175,000 Nutrien Equine Finals at Menangle on August 27.
Her three horses aimed at the colts and geldings edition include the above-mentioned Major Celebrity that won the Sapling Stakes in Victoria last start.
She also has the talented Petracca (Captaintreacherous) will also represent the stable alongside First Responder (Art Major).
Petracca has won three of his four starts with his only defeat in the Bathurst Gold Crown Final.
