Corey O’Donoghue is back in the harness racing sulky after a horrible fall at Melton four months ago.
The 26-year-old suffered a fractured bone between his knee and hip in the January 12 collision but made his long-awaited return to the races on May 9 at Shepparton.
“It feels like I have started fresh again. It’s been good (to get back), but it is going to take a long time to get back into the swing of it,” O’Donoghue said. “It’s like riding a bike and trying to remember how quick you are going.
“It felt like forever until I got back. Once I jogged my first one at home, it felt good to be back in the cart again. I just couldn’t wait to get back doing what I love doing.”
It has been a long process for the Kialla reinsman to feature on race day.
“I had the operation, and I pretty much was laid up for two to three weeks. Then I was on the crutches for another four weeks and doing rehab to get myself up and walking again,” he said.
“For about two-and-a-half months I was just hobbling around and after that I was without the crutches, which was good.
“It was one of those things that could have been worse for everyone involved.
”I am just grateful for the support I have had from everyone that I have come across. Everyone has accidents unfortunately and mine was just on a TV.”
O’Donoghue backed up with another drive at Shepparton last Wednesday and placed third with Jacksboy.
