Filly Omnia (Volstead) gave a faultless all the way display to take out the $20,000 Listed Aldebaran Park Two Year Old trotters Southern Cross Final at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

In a keen betting race Idealogy who had won his only two appearances was a firm favourite but there was a plunge on Voucher Queen.

Omnia began best out of the mobile and held the lead but then beat off a challenge from Oakden who was looking for the lead. Michael Smith on Omnia attempted to settle the field and yet again Oakden unsuccessfully challenged for the front.

In the meantime Idealogy who was running third took the trail right behind the leader while Voucher Queen was able to secure the one out and one back trail.

Omnia was able to finally beat off Oakden while Voucher Queen looked to be struggling out three wide and then she broke at the vital stage. Idealogy looked to be going for an inside run but just as he looked dangerous he locked wheels and broke up.

It was left to Helpisfaraway and Magical Madge to do the chasing but Omnia held on to win by two metres from the other two.

But there is no doubt that Omnia fully deserved her win as she had to do all the work in front and yet hold on.

Omnia is raced and trained by her breeder Tyson Linke who races the filly with his sister Tara-Shae. Tyson won the Southern Cross two year old fillies final four years ago with Encipher who then went on to win the Eureka at Menangle in 2023.

Omnia is out the New Zealand mare Consica (ContinentalMan) and she won five races at Globe Derby in her career.

It was encouraging to see seven runners for the Final. South Australia has struggled to run three year old trotters features over the years and it is hoped that these runners and maybe more to come will allow for the running of the South Australia Trotters Oaks and South Australian Trotters Derby for next year. The time honoured Trotters Derby hasn’t been run for a few years due to a lack of entries.

It turned out to be a great night for driver Michael Smith who then proceeded to win the next two races with Apieceoflou (Sweet Lou) and Neds Beach (Somebeachsomewhere)
