Filly Open the Gates (Downbytheseaside) made her winning debut when she led all the way to take out an exciting South Australian BOTRA 2YO Kindergarten Series Final at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

Confidently driven by Wayne Hill, Open The Gates was a short priced favourite and expected to avenge her surprise loss in her heat the week prior to Im Big Business who was the only other runner in the event with any support.

Showing good speed early Open The Gates had no trouble leading with her danger Im Big Business moving up to race outside the lead.
OPEN THE GATES APR 26 REPLAY KINDERGARTEN FINAL 2YO
With just under a lap to travel Kevin Weidenbach on Im Big Business started to apply the pressure and all of a sudden the two drew clear of their opponents as they were locked together in the back straight. Im Big Business continued to grind away but Open The Gates gained a crucial break on straightening and she was able to draw clear to win by just under four metres from Im Big Business. These two spaced the remainder of the field with Ella Kate a further 40 metres away third.
The winner’s mile rate was 1.59.5.
Open The Gates is owned by a large group of owners including the breeders Summit Bloodstock. The filly is trained by Emma Stewart who also trained Open The Gate’s dam Nikki Louise an Art Major filly. Nikki Louise was an accomplished race mare and she won her last four appearances at Victorian country circuits before being retired early.

Im Big Business ran a brave race given that he was outside the leader throughout and he will make his presence felt in good juvenile company.
