Well-travelled pacer Our Ruby Rose recorded her second harness racing win since arriving in Tasmania, with a 3.2m win in Launceston on Sunday night (Mar. 19).

Our Ruby Rose

The six-year-old mare was sent out as a $5.50 chance and stepped cleanly from the standing start before copping a slight check and galloping to settle in the back half of the field early in the race before ending up in the one-one.

Driver Dylan Ford made his move at the 450m to race away to the mare’s fifth career win over Ozzie Major ($41) and Christian Jazz ($5.50)

“She was back to standing start grade, and it was a similar race to what she contested in Burnie (when she won).

“We lobbed close enough to use her speed late,” said Ford post-race.

“She should have run second when she broke (in Hobart on 10 March), so her form should read one, two, one,” he added.

Our Ruby Rose started her career in Victoria before racing in New South Wales and Queensland.

She was recently purchased by Fingal’s Tenille Burt, who sent the mare to Dylan’s mother, Tammy Langley, to train.

“Tenille was watching her in Queensland and decided to purchase her, and mum got a phone call to see if she would like to take her on, and she was happy to on her last start win in Queensland.

“In these standing start races, which there are a few coming up, I expect her to be competitive with her high speed in those low-grade races,” said Ford.
