Broken Hill hosted a five-event harness racing program on Saturday night with the main event being the Robert “Pup” Mitchell Memorial won by Overpowering (Changeover) and driven by his part owner Kaela Hryhorec.
Overpowering had to sit outside the leader Dribblabil and despite over racing a fraction the son of Changeover won by 2.2 metres to give the 23-year-old Hryhorec her 144th winner, this season thus far she has driven four winners.
Hryhorec’s career has had its ups and downs she drove her first winner in June 2016 onboard Quagmire at Globe Derby Park, and in 2019 Kaela represented South Australia in the Australian Female Drivers Championship in Queensland, then a severe thumb injury in a race fall at Mount Gambier in 2021 sidelined the talented driver.
Other winners on the program were My Line Of Fire who won his second race at the Rocky Baker Memorial Oval Paceway, Watchtheclock won race two driven by Luke Watson, Roscos Rescue a well travelled mare who started her career at Leeton, and then raced in West Australia won at her first venture to the Silver City circuit.
Luke Watson made it a driving double when Drunken Mistake took out the last event, Watson has driven seven winners this season at Broken Hill.
