Eight-year-old gelding Pardoe Plugga (Western Edition) completed the Meander Valley and Carrick Cup double when scoring in the 2024 Page Transport Carrick Cup (2650m) at Carrick Park on Sunday.
The pacer, who was sent out as a $17 chance, raced off the speed and proved too good late for Windy Hanover ($6.50) and Fleetwood Rock ($11) in a mile rating of 2:02.4s.
Reinsman Charlie Castels kept the pacer out of the early speed battle from his 10m handicap, which saw the lead time recorded in 79.0s, which was 7.0s faster than last yearās Cup.
Pardoe Plugga was left leading the one-wide line from the mile mark and then had one-one cover from the 1000m before being shuffled one out and two back at the 800m.
Castles got the pacer into the clear from the 400m, where he stormed home to win by 5.4m.
The pacer is raced by his Spreyton-based trainer, Leigh Rand, along with Dane Rand and Murray Bryan.
It was a great day at the office for trainer Tammy Langley and her son, and stable driver Dylan Ford, winning four of the nine races.
They combined to win the first four races with Ideal Son, Alaphilippe and Just Follow Me before Cedric Seymour won the dayās final race.
Artyboy Glenwood continued his love affair with the Carrick track when winning theCoactive Building Design Trainers Encouragement PaceĀ (2150m).
The Brian Mackrill-trained gelding speared straight to the lead from outside of the front row and dictated the race to win by a half-neck in 2:00.8s.
The pacer has raced at all four Carrick meetings this summer to record three wins and one second placing.
Sundayās meeting was the last country harness meeting in the state for the summer season, with Hobart and Launceston conducting the meetings up till approximately October.
