Rising three year old Path To Greatness (Captaintreacherous) earned a spot in the Group 1 Rising Sun when he led all the way to take out the 2025 Queensland Sun at Albion Park on Saturday evening.

The youngest runner in the field was facing four year old rivals but with the ideal pole draw was sent out favourite and driver Grant Dixon had no hesitation in taking advantage of the draw to lead early on.

Stablemate Charge Ahead who had performed admirably when runner up in the Chariots of Fire at Menangle was drawn on the second row but driver Matthew Neilson was able to follow through and take the trail behind Path To Greatness.
Smart mare Rylee Rhayne Bow was up outside the leader early but she was able to secure a one and one back trail when Birkirkara whipped around the outside the field to test the leader.

Dixon gave Path To Greatness a vital breather in the third quarter running a leisurely 31.3 seconds and then he gave the colt full rein on the final bend. Charge Ahead was taking time trying to make ground but Path To Greatness simply surged away to defeat Charge Ahead by just under four metres with Attachment out wide finishing a credible third.
Path To Greatness was a gallant second to star colt Always Hot in the New South Wales Derby earlier in the year but he proved his class when he took out the Nutrien Equine at Melton in April.
He’s now earned his place in the $300,000 Rising Sun at Albion Park on opening night of the Inter Dominion Carnival on July 5.
He’s bound to face some stiff opposition including the winner of the previous event The Janitor and Chariots of Fire victor Bay of Biscay.
While Charge Ahead held on well for second the eye catching run outside the winner was that of Attachment who came from near last in the big field to storm home in third placing. Attachment has above average ability and while he may not score a place in the Rising Sun he will take catching with a more favourable draw.
