Patrick O’Boyle was introduced harness by Ron Huston snr in the late 2000s and was hooked immediately, when his first horse, Elite Angel, won six races as a 3YO.

Breeder Patrick O’Boyle with smart pacer Robbie Rocket

O’Boyle, now based in Tasmania, has maintained his association with the Hustons and Elite Angel, breeding four winners from her first four foals – including Golden Slipper placegetter Robbie Rocket (1.56.3, $146K).

He has also bred from her highly promising daughter Sonic Suzy, who has a filly in the 2025 APG Perth Yearling Sale.

“I became involved in Perth many years ago when a friend of mine Ron Huston, and his son Ron, were training pacers in Perth,” O’Boyle said.

“They offered me a share in a filly (Elite Angel) and it all started from there.

“They had a few horses down Byford way and Ron still has his property there. Old Ron passed away but I got a share of Elite Angel.

“We also had Jay Cee Ess (Kalgoorlie Cup) and a few others in those days.

“Sonic Suzy beat Wonderful To Fly at GP in good time when she was a 2YO then broke down.

“Ron has cut back now and only has a few young ones in work.

“I have a 2YO named Candy Cannon by Ultimate Sniper just about ready. Gary Hall Jnr will be training that filly.

“I am in Tassie now and have a filly down here called Tullah Girl just about ready to come back in.

“I also have a share in Bet the House (trained by Huston). Can’t wait until he gets back in action.”

O’Boyle said he had been breeding for 12 years, since Elite Angel retired. He has two broodmares.

He will offer two fillies in the Perth sale.

Lot 389 is Art Major from Elite Angel (1.56.2, $128K), who won 12 races. She is a half sister to Group 1 4YO Classic winner Son Of Fergie (1.56.3, $323K) and has produced 10-time winner Robbie Rocket and Major Overs (1.55.3, $89K).

Robbie Rocket is by Follow The Stars, a son of Art Major, and Major Overs is by Art Major, so it is a proven cross.

“This mare is a very good producer who breeds fast racehorses who generally race early,” O’Boyle said.

“Robbie Rocket is the best I have bred.”

O’Boyle’s other filly, Lot 355, is by vastly underrated sire Rock N Roll Heaven from Sonic Suzy (1.55.7, $25K), who won three times from just eight starts, including a Gloucester Park 2YO metro win when she beat future WA Oaks winner Taking The Miki, multiple Group winner Wonderful To Fly ($796K) and free-for-all mare Acharne Girl.

Her half sister, 2YO winner Cap In Hand, has already produced quality youngster All Is Well (1.54.7, $177K), a winner of 13 races – 10 of those as a 2YO and 3YO.

“Sonic Suzy is a full sister to Robbie Rocket has a Rock N Roll Heaven filly in the Perth sale,” O’Boyle said.

“Both fillies were bred at Allwood stud and look excellent prospects.”
