Highly talented Auckland Reactor four-year-old Reactor Now stretched his winning sequence to seven and earned a new speed badge of 1:52.2 when he came from second last to win the Victorian Regional Challenge heat at Bendigo on Friday night (June 26).
Gaining a three-wide trail in the back straight, Reactor Now was spotting the leaders a conservative 25 metres at the 600 metre mark but maintained a solid finishing thrust to prevail in the last stride.
The gelding has now won nine of his 12 lifetime starts and $55,630 in stakes.
The win was the highlight of another highly successful weekend for emerging sire Auckland Reactor.
Bossmaro, a four-year-old, romped home by three-and-a-half lengths at a 1:59.9 rate over 2600 metres at Addington, while the five-year-old Jimmy Richter notched his second win at Invercargill.
Other recent Australian winners by Auckland Reactor were Temora Reactor (1:57, Wagga) and Hilo Tyson (Northam).
Auckland Reactor is currently ranked fifth on this year’s New Zealand all aged sires’ list and third on the 5YO and older table ahead of American Ideal and Art Major. His NZ based stock has earned $746,000 to date this season.
