Classy New Zealand gelding Rubira (Always B Miki) made amends for his failure in the Rising Sun when he convincingly outpointed his harness racing opponents in The $150,000 Group 1 Ladbrokes Queensland Derby run at Albion Park on Saturday evening.

In a keen betting race Hesitate was favourite but there was strong support for Fate Awaits, Jacks Ultimate Fury and Rubira was also keep safe in the betting.
As expected Hesitate easily held the lead but not long after Adam Sanderson Rubira made a lightning run around the field and he swept to the lead with Hesitate taking the trail behind the leader.
Fate Awaits was well back but Rubira had a relatively easy run in front which was always going to make it difficult for those behind him to make any ground. In fact the only danger turning for home was Hesitate but Rubira kicked clear and won by three metres from Hesitate with Fate Awaits coming home well for third even though well back.
RUBIRA JUL19 REPLAY
Adam Sanderson the winning driver created a new record in winning back to back Queensland Derbies as he was successful last year with Major Hot. It was a daring drive by Sanderson and the race move proved to be the winning factor.

Trainer Mark Purdon commented:
“We selected him as a yearling. He wasn’t easy as a young horse, he could get easily spooked and that caused a few setbacks. He missed the New Zealand classics”.
“He’ll now go back home for a spell and resume in December.” He’s getting better with racing and should come back better.”
There were few excuses for the beaten brigade but both Fate Awaits and Seathestars came from well back to finish third and fourth respectively.
The placegetters are all on track to clash in the Victoria Pacers Derby later on this season but much will depend on their connections.
