Ryan Hryhorec etches himself into the record books

Premier horseman Ryan Hryhorec etched his name into the harness racing record books yesterday.

Dominating proceedings at Globe Derby, Hryhorec drove the winner in seven of the eight races on the card, while finishing second in the other!

As such, Hryhorec became the first South Australian to register a septet.

Geoff Webster, David Harding, Dani and Wayne Hill co-held the previous record of six victories at an SA meeting, with Dani leading the way with five sextets between March 2018 and August 2021.

Hryhorec’s haul makes him just the third Australian reinsman to drive seven winners at a meeting, joining Gary Hall junior and Jack Laugher.

“My phone hasn’t stopped all evening…it’s been crazy,” Hryhorec said. “I’ve been getting calls and texts non-stop, which is overwhelming.

“I really have to thank everyone for their support.”

Hryhorec’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ came via Muscle Miss, Santa Casa Lane, Flingandwingit, Majestic Summer, Butter Cup, Boss Major and Trouble Looming.

“I told a mate of mine before the meeting I had a pretty good book, but no real standouts,” Hryhorec said. “So to come away with seven wins was pretty amazing.

“I’ve driven five winners at a meeting seven times, so I was quite rapt to get that sixth one.

“Along with getting the seventh winner, I was pleased to have done it with Trouble Looming as he’d been runner-up in his last four starts.

“After the last I didn’t have time to stick around and let it sink in as I had to get home and take my daughter, Acacia, to her netball game.

“Her team is winning at the moment, so if she can walk away with the win it will top off the day brilliantly.”
