Talented reinsman Ryan Warwick was at his very best with an impressive all the way winning harness racing drive on Cams Boulder (Cams Fool) in the $30,000 Pure Steel Pace at Perth’s harness racing showpiece at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Owned and trained by Russell Eddy, Cams Boulder was well supported into favouritism and from his barrier draw of 3 went straight to the lead holding off the early challenge of Achushla Macree who had begun quickly from out wide. Bet On The River from the pole position was able to take the trail behind the leader.
From then on Warwick was able to dictate to his own terms over the 2536 metre trip.
CAMS BOULDER JUNE 6 REPLAY
Running his last two quarters in 28.3 and 28.9 seconds Cams Boulder sprinted clear on straightening. Bet On The River set out in hot pursuit but the issue was never in doubt as Cams Boulder scored by just under five metres from Bet On The River with Soho Moonraker winding up in third placing.
Warwick commented after the event.
“He’s been consistent for a fair while now. It took us a while to get him to town and racing consistent. He was going up the rankings a little bit quick. So we had to win one to it worth it.”
“Tonight was a good one to win.”
“His gait speed was always something he had. He just threw a fifth leg every now and then and called himself out.”
“He’s learned to compose himself and tonight was a good challenge. He had to use all his gait speed and he did it well.”
Warwick expressed his confidence that the nine year old gelding would continue to win similar class races at Perth headquarters.
Despite easing up as a driver a few years back to take on the position as the curator of the Pinjarra track Warwick is still a force to be reckoned with.
With 1,977 career wins, he won’t take long to reach the 2,000 wins milestone.
He still holds a unique Australian record of winning nine races with nine successive drives, and he is one of a select group of drivers to drive the full card of landing all six winners on the six-event program at Kellerberrin on October 2019.
