SA harness racing to celebrate the biggest night of the year

Group harness racing returns to Globe Derby Park on Saturday night with the South Australian Harness Racing Club conducting an eleven-race card with more than $220,000 in prizemoney up for grabs.

The meeting features many of the leading open class pacers and trotters and two and three-year-olds pacers from SA and Victoria locking horns in four Group and Listed races.

The Group 3 $60,000 Ladbroke’s SA Pacing Cup Final, the State’s signature event, has drawn together a top class field who qualified from the heats run last Saturday.

The Emma Stewart trained four-year-old Miki To Success, the fastest heat winner, has been installed as the $1.20 favourite, ahead of his stablemate Sir Jimmy ($3.30), a last start winner of the Veterinary Surgeon’s Cup.

The Group 3 $40,000 Ladbroke’s SA Trotters Cup Final has a host of winning chances with seven horses quoted at single figure odds. The Victorian raider John’s Boy and the local All The Trix share top billing at $4.50, from Kyvalley Heist ($6.50) with the Ryan Hryhorec quartet Aldebaran Dexta, Doff Your Cap, Ebony’s Avenger and Regal Attire all well in contention.

The $30,000 SA Pacing Derby, carrying generous sponsorship support from the Seymour Group, looks to three main winning hopes in the Victorians Silver Pistol and Forty Love and the south-east trained Always Dancing.

A NSW Derby heat winner, Silver Pistol has a huge advantage over his two main rivals Always Dancing and Forty Love, the two heat winners, who will start from barriers eight and 10 respectively.

The Peter Bain trained One Millie and Hez So Royal, who quinellaed last week’s Alabar SA BOTRA Golden Nursery heat, will meet head-on again in the Listed $25,000 Final. Just Jimmy, the winner of the slowest heat, is the only other runner in contention.

A 50 year association with the sport will be marked with the running of the $20,000 SAHRC Legend Anne Mowday Pace. Anne has been a breeder, owner, stablehand and administrator, including a five-year stint as President of the SAHRC.

In her most recent role as President, Anne has been instrumental in delivering the much anticipated land development project on Port Wakefield Road that will ensure the Club’s financial security for the future.

The first race is scheduled for 5.34pm (Adelaide time).
