Emerging three-year-old Sergeant Lou (Sweet Lou) is en route to the NSW Pacers Derby following his impressive all the way harness racing win in the VHRC Caduceus 3YO Classic at Melton.
Sent out a $2.50 favorite, Sergeant Lou held the lead from its pole draw while the main dangers Dee Roe (leaderās back) and Uniquely Ideal sat parked outside the leader.Ā
With Michael Bellman shaking the reins in the home straight, Sergeant Lou staved off a sprint lane challenge from Dee Roe to score by two metres with The Answer two metres away third.Ā

Bellman said the son of Sweet Lou has the makings of the consummate racehorse.Ā
āHe is everything you want in a horse, heās got both speed and stamina and his lovely gait makes it easier to cover the ground thatās for sure,ā Bellman said.Ā
Bellman said there was a reason why Sergeant Lou was inclined to run around in the straight winning at Shepparton at his last start.Ā
āHe had an issue of getting on a bumper last week which is why he looked a bit wayward, but weāve rectified that and its onwards and upwards,ā he said.Ā
Trainer Kari Males said Sergeant Lou will be Sydney bound next month.Ā
āWeāll probably look at the NSW Derby and map a plan for that and then look after him and go from there,ā Males said.Ā
