The Shallows (Shadyshark Hanover) recorded the second win of his current preparation with a dominant victory in harness racing’s Woodsdale Football Club Pace in Hobart on Sunday night (Jul. 24).

Trainer-driver Heath Woods delivered one of the best drives in Tasmania this season to record the victory.

After settling one-out and three-back with the second elect Harjeet on his back, Woods elected to shift to a position three-back the marker pegs near the 1100m.

Woods was able to weave a passage through the small field to find clear facing room around the home turn to rundown race favourite Sunny Sanz, to defeat him by 2.6m, with Be Major Threat a half-head away third in 1m 58.5s.

The Shallows, a six-year-old gelding, started off the front-line for the first time since last August, and will be one of the states main chances in the $20,000 Metropolitan Cup in Hobart on 3 September, provided connections go that way.

Earlier in the night concession driver Bronte Miller out-drove her five-point concession claim when scoring aboard Major Lester (Art Major).

The win was won of four winners on the card for trainer Ben Yole.

Mark Yole partnered two of those winners with Arden Roanoke (Art Major) and Whatta Good Reason (For A Reason), with Corey Bell steering Yole’s fourth winner in Heza Rummage (Sands A Flyin).

The only other participant to record multiple wins was trainer Kent Rattray, who prepared the promising Karalta Artemis (Huntsville) to victory in the opening race and Colby Sanz (Betterthancheddar) later in the evening.

Better Amour (Betterthancheddar) continued on her winning way for the Paul Carlson and Ricky Duggan combination when defeating Iden Miss Lucy in the fourth race of the night, in a mile rating of 1m 57.8s, which was a career best for the mare.

Bettors Delight mare Lalasa is another pacer in form, she notched up her third career win at start 12 for her trainer-driver Todd Rattray.
