Trainer Glenn Sharp is hoping Bellmac Bambi (Imperial Count) can thrive under the standing start conditions in Tuesday night’s Kevin Abrahams Memorial Kyabram Trotters Cup at Shepparton.
The seven-year-old will start from inside the front row in the $6000 harness racing feature.
“She is usually a pretty good standing start horse, so that shouldn’t worry her,” Sharp said.
“Looking at the field, I reckon she is half a chance.
“If we lead and run an even time, it makes it a bit hard for the handicappers.
“If something else leads and wants to stack them up, you let the handicappers get into it.”
Sharp’s mare found some form in the month of July, running three seconds in-a-row and has continued to find confidence in her grade.
“She is honest as the day and she is a real trier… depending on how the race is run, she could be right there at the end,” the Longlea horseman said.
A victory in the Kyabram Trotters Cup would be a very special result for the 60-year-old Sharp.
“If you win any sort of cup, it’s always a bit of a buzz. It’s just the prestige of winning something with a great name,” he said.
Josh Duggan is set to steer the daughter out of Aladen Star on Tuesday night.
Joining Bellmac Bambi on the front row is the Kenneth Covington-trained Montana Muscle and the David Barbetti-prepared Aldebaran Brutus.
The Julie Mifsud-trained Escape The Pace will be the furthest back runner on 50m.
The other feature of the night is the Techies Tyres Kyabram Pacing Cup where the Alison Alford-trained The Statesman is set to start favourite ahead of pole marker Settebello for Freddy Taiba.
The 2190m Kevin Abrahams Memorial Kyabram Trotters Cup is set to go at 8.42pm.
