Shes A Tiny Dancer flys home for King victory

Driver Mitch Ford predicts a bright future for Shes A Tiny Dancer after winning the King Fillies & Mares Series (2200m) in Launceston on Sunday night.

The Tasmanian-bred pacer was having her first start in the state, with her previous racing being in Victoria, where the three-year-old daughter of A Rocknroll Dance had won two of her 20 starts.

From barrier one, the $7 chance settled on the back of Spot Ruler and only got clear 100m out, where she flew home to record a 1.2m win over Swiatek Leis ($8) and Spot Ruler ($1.22fav) in a mile rate of 2:00.0s.

“I think she is a possible Oaks mare and will be more than competitive in the Bandbox,” said Ford.

“She is still learning and is a bit green, but other than that, I think she is a nice horse,” he added.

Magician ($1.22 fav) leaves the state this week for a tilt at next month’s Len Smith Mile at Menangle, and he leaves in winning form after claiming the 6ty Free For All (2200m).

From outside of the front-line, the Todd Rattray-trained and driven pacer worked forward to find the lead and scored by 3.2m over Keayang Fitzy in 1:56.8s, just 1.1s outside the track record.

The win was the first leg of a double for Rattray, who won the last race on the Paul Carlson-trained Sweet Amour.

The John and Charlie Castles association continued their good form with another double.

This time, they combined with Tullah Girl ($6), who broke her maiden by the narrowest of margins before combining to win with Bettablack Tiger ($1.35 fav).

Also recording a double on the card was reinsman John Walters, who scored with the Clayton Miller-trained Laid Back ($3.50 fav) and the Kent Rattray-trained Rockandahardplace ($12).

Trainer Wayne Yole and driver Nathan Ford also combined for a double with the wins of Swimintheriver ($2.25 fav) and We Salute You ($11).
