Shes Ruby Roo looking for another Group 1 success

Shes Ruby Roo (Creatine) will be looking to score a hat-trick of harness racing wins and a second Group 1 triumph when she lines up in the Macarthur Mile for trotting mares at Menangle this Saturday night.

Shes Ruby Roo will be looking to score a hat-trick of wins and a second Group 1 triumph when she lines up in the Macarthur Mile for trotting mares at Menangle this Saturday night.

Last year’s Victoria Trotters Oaks champion is currently on a two-race winning streak after glory at Ballarat and Menangle, which has seen her amass over $139,000 in prizemoney from 21 career starts.

The four-year-old has enjoyed sustained success at Myrniong with Jess Tubbs and Greg Sugars since making the move from the Peter Hall stable in August 2023, and has reportedly pulled up well from last week’s victory at harness racing headquarters in New South Wales.

“She came through last week’s run really well, so whilst this is a clear step-up in grade for her, we’re sure she will run another great race this weekend,” trainer Tubbs said.

Road trips haven’t always been smooth sailing for Shes Ruby Roo, but the squaregaiter has settled in well this time around.

“She’s not generally a brilliant traveller, but she handled the trip really well,” she said.

“We opted to leave her in Sydney for the week to reduce her travelling. We’re so lucky to have Blake and Lisa Fitzpatrick looking after our girls while Greg (Sugars) and I can’t be there.”

The bay mare has gate 11 for the $100,000 event, and while the draw isn’t ideal, Tubbs has taken confidence from her performance in last week’s lead-up race.

“The draw will make things very hard for her over the mile. Hopefully it’s a truly run race and she can be finishing hard,” Tubbs said. “Her time last week (1:54.1) made her the third fastest Aussie-bred trotting mare, which is pretty special.”

The 1609m event has a strong Victorian flavour, with Im Ready Jet, Revelstoke (Anton Golino), Queen Elida, Aldebaran Keepa (Brent Lilley) and Lady Adelia (Chris Svanosio) all trained across the border and set to compete for a chunk of the prize pool.
