New Zealand bred colt Showmethetanlines (Downbytheseaside) maintained his unbeaten harness racing run when he led all the way In the $50,000 Group 3 Multiquip Aggregates New South Wales Sapling Stakes at Menangle Park last night.
Showmethetanlines had won at his debut at Addington before coming over to Victoria to join Adam Kelly’s stables. On the strength of a trial win at Melton he was installed a short priced favourite.
There were some anxious moments when he caused a false start but on the second attempt he showed enough speed to take up the running. The only other runner with support Soho Majestic took the trail behind the leader.
It was obvious on the final bend that Showmethetanlines was going much better than his opponents and he drew clear to record a comfortable win over Soho Majestic with Fake Friends in third place.
The win was made even more impressive with a fast mile rate of 1.52.2
Driver Kate Gath has high hopes for the big striding brown colt.
“I had to make him go 1.52 to win the race and he did. We’ll spell him for now as there’s not much on for him and he’s not eligible for many races.”
“He’s got a bit of filling out to do. He’s obviously got a bit of a motor.”
“He’s a big striding horse , he’s a pretty cool customer and takes everything in his stride. We’ll see how he comes back in and his future is bright”.
Soho Majestic held on for second but the eye catching run was that of rank outsider A Buck Ten. A clear last on straightening he sprouted wings down the outside to grab fourth placing and he’s certain not to be triple figure odds at his next appearance.
