It may not have been the biggest night on a harness racing track for Jack Trainor but his treble at Menangle on Saturday was “something special”.
Amongst Trainor’s success was the $50,000 Group 2 J.L. Raith Memorial with smart New Zealand filly Just Remember Me.
Trained by Cran Dalgety, Just Remember Me completed a double for the stable with Trainor also guiding Krug to his Menangle maiden success.
“I’m just really happy to drive a couple of winners for Cran,” said Trainor.
“They are not the biggest races of my career but considering him and his family had such a big part of my early career, it was something special to me.”
Trainor worked for Dalgety before heading over to Australia to further his career.
The 27-year-old reinsman notched up win 619 when Krug, a son of Bettors Delight, raced outside the leader and rated a career best 1:49.9.
“Krug is just a machine!,” said Trainor.
“He’s such a gentleman to drive and just did it effortlessly.”
Win 620 for Trainor was with Stylish Memphis.
Now under the care of Trainor, the daughter of Bettors Delight faced the breeze and rated 1:50.7 to beat off her rivals.
“She had to earn her win,” said Trainor.
“It’s not the way I like to drive her but she knuckled down the last 100m and had a good blow after the race so she should improve again.
“I might have been a touch easy on her this fortnight.”
Win 621 for Trainor was Just Remember Me in the feature event.
In her Australian debut, the three-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous, worked forward from barrier eight and led throughout in 1:51.8.
“She is a serious filly,” said Trainor.
“She felt lost out in front but once the others got to her neck she never felt like she would let them past.
“She’ll suit Menangle and can’t wait to get her over the 2300m.”
Just Remember Me is being set for the New South Wales Oaks with heats at Menangle on February 19.
