Victorian trained pacer Bettor Isolate cetainly turned heads in his first appearance at Menangle on Saturday night (Oct. 22) when he scored a slashing win in the first qualifying heat of harness racing’s New South Wales Breeders Challenge for four-year-olds.
And in doing so, the gelded son of Bettors Delight posted a slashing 1.49.5 mile rate which was almost two seconds faster than Braedos Lad which took out the second division for David Kennedy and Jackson Painting.
Bettor Isolate was bred by the late Joe Cordina from his former top racemare and now producer Ashees Babe and is part-owned by his son Daniel, a Director of Club Menangle.
And the win would have been very satisying for the family following the recent passing of their mother Tessie.
Trainer, driver Matty Craven had little option but to take a sit with Bettor Isolate after Queensland visitor Hy Voltage flew the gate and then set a breakneck speed in front.
This played into Cravenās hands and he was able to come off the leaderās back halfway down the lane and race clear to score by a widening 10 metre margin.
BETTOR ISOLATE REPLAY
āIt was a hot speed from the outset which certainly suited usā, said Craven.
āBettor Isolate is a very nice horse in the making. He has only had twelve race starts and has won more than half of them which is pleasing.ā
āIt would be great to pick up a Group 1 for his owners. They are a great bunch headed by Daniel Cordina and I know how much it meant to them to win in front of their local crowd.ā
āIt was a no brainer for me to select barrier one for next weekās final. Hopefully from there, we can snare the leaderās back again,ā said Craven.
Bettor Isolateās slashing win set the scence for an exciting night of racing.
The stouche between Queenslander Leap To Fame and My Ultimate Ronnie in the three-year-old division of the Breeders Challenge was a highlight as they staged a neck and neck battle down the lane with just a half head separating them on the line.
My Ulitmate Ronnie has drawn barrier two for the final while Leap To Fame will start out wide in gate nine, setting the scene for an interesting final which could see the local pacer turn the tables on his Queensland counterpart.
