Consistent without winning is best to describe the recent harness racing form of five-year-old gelding Southern Luck (Ifihadyourluck) , who lines up in the Brendon Scott Electrical Pace (2090m) in Hobart on Friday night.
Southern Luck recorded his second career win in Hobart on 18 June. The pacer has been placed in five of his last seven starts, bringing his record to two wins and seven placings from 22 starts.
āHe has been racing well, but it has been a bit frustrating (with him not breaking through for a win).
āWe are still trying to get his gear right, and we have had a few problems with him, but he seems to be going alright now, so we will see what happens on Friday night,ā said Brighton-based trainer Danny Malone.
Southern Luckās most recent placing was in Launceston on Saturday night, when second in the $20,000 Sinbad Bay Final behind Just Tiger.
āHe was coming home alright, but he got held up and had to get through a bit of traffic.
āIf he had gotten on the winnerās back, he may have been a bit closer. Whether he would have knocked him off, Iām unsure,ā said Malone, who also bred the horse and is a part-owner.
Drawn barrier one on Friday, Malone has booked Todd Rattray for the drive from a favourable draw.
āThere are a few good horses in the race, but I will tell Todd (Rattray) to drive him on feel. Last week was the first time he had travelled to Launceston, and that did take a bit out of him. I backed off his work this week, so Iāll see how he goes,ā Malone said.
Fridayās seven-race card commences at 17:40 and can be seen on TasracingTV and Sky Racing 2.
