Southwind Frank Tr 2, 1:52.2 ($1.9 million), the world champion two-year-old, Breeders Crown champion and USA and Canadian 2YO Trotting Colt of the Year, has made an impact with his first crop racing in North America.
From a foal crop of just 49, Southwind Frank has already been represented by 22 starters, seven winners with four in the 2:00 list and the winners of $150,401 in stakes, and he is the second leading first-season sire.
They include a top colt in Type A, who is unbeaten in two attempts including an end-to-end triumph in 1:56 in a $70,000 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes division at The Meadows.
Tart Tongue (1:58), Bacardi (1:58.2) and Southern Mazzarati (1:58.2) have been other winners sired by Southwind Frank from his initial crop.
Another feature of the North American sires’ statistics to date this year is the rise to third position in the three-year-old trotter’s section by Trixton, behind only Chapter Seven and Muscle Hill. He has sired the winners of $940,000 in 2020, of which $610,000 has been won by his three-year-olds.
Caviart Eva, a three-year-old filly, contributed to that tally with a win in a $42,700 division of the Tompkins Geers in a slick 1:52.2 at Meadowlands on Saturday night (July 25).
The brilliant two-year-old colt Utopia is flying the flag for Trixton on the home front, winning at his first appearance at Shepparton by an amazing 82 metres.
Meanwhile, Wishing Stone’s bonny three-year-old daughter Venkman notched her fourth success at Bendigo on Sunday night (July 26).
Southwind Frank, Trixton and Wishing Stone are all members of Stallions Australasia’s frozen semen roster for 2020/21.
