When Adam Sanderson scores up on the $1.90 harness racing favorite Speak The Truth (Bettor’s Delight) behind the black and white checks of Grant Dixon in the $231,000 The Hayden on Saturday night he should do so with a welcome degree of optimism.
Sanderson and the Shannon Price trained pacer have chased home Dixonās superstar Leap To Fame in two of their past three outings.
Not so this week.
Dixon will be partnering the $34 chance Free Thinker in The Hayden while his illustrious stable mate will grace the race track 35 minutes later in the Group 1 Sunshine Sprint.
āIt will be good not having to take on Leap To Fame, he is one out of the box,ā Sanderson said.
Speak The Truth endured a tough run finishing seventh behind Leap To Fame in The Rising Sun last Saturday night after being a victim of circumstance mid race when left parked outside that pacer at the bell.
āWe took off in front of Leap To Fame hoping to get cover on his back but once he went to the lead we were left a sitting duck,ā he said.
āI thought my horseās run was exceptional given the sectionals they ran and the amount of work he did.ā
The son of Bettors Delight returned to the race track three months ago after being off the scene for almost 12 months due to injury.
āHe developed a hoof abscess which developed into a bad quarter crack and he was ready to come back after six months and then he needed surgery on a hock after getting ODC,ā he said.
Sanderson believes Speak The Truth has returned a more robust conveyance as a four-year-old.
āBeing by Bettors Delight they generally get better with age and he has come back a stronger horse although he lacks the hard racing the others have had over the past 12 months,ā he said.
āBut he is making up for lost time.ā
