Busselton vendor Reese Kaptein will present a half sister to his dual Group 1 winning filly Im Bella Jay at the 2025 APG Perth Yearling Sale on March 2.

Lot 428

Im Bella Jay (1.57.6, $186K) was known for her toughness. She won nine races, including the 2YO and 3YO Westbred fillies finals.

The impressive chestnut filly, who will go through the ring as Lot 428, is by Tintin In America from Belterbet and is from an outstanding filly family.

Belterbet won five races and is a half sister to NZ Oaks runner-up Donegal Delight (1.56.3, $225K) and tough gelding Italian Delight (1.50.2, $504K), a winner of 37 races on US tracks.

This sales filly is closely related to superstar mare Shartin (1.46.8, $2.6mil) who was twice US aged pacing mare of the year. Shartin in by Tintin In America. Her grandam is a full sister to this filly’s grandam.

“The Belturbet filly is a nice, neat little filly. She has got the typical feisty chestnut filly attitude and should get up and run early,” Kaptein’s partner Kayla Trewenack said.

Kaptein’s second offering is to Lot 462, a filly by McWicked from handy race mare Falling Starzzz (1.57.8, $47K).

Fallin Starzzz first foal, Girl Of Brightness, was a 2YO winner in 2024.

Girl Of Brightness (by Advance Attack) has finished outside the top five just twice in seven starts.

This sales filly is from the family of Golden Nugget and Chariots of Fire winner Beefy T (1.56.7, $369K) and outstanding fillies Bettor Move It (1.58, $150K) and Havtime (1.50, $380K).

“She is a big strong filly with a great attitude. She is well put together and has a great attitude towards anything. A very straight forward filly,” Trewenack said.

Im Bella Jay was the first foal bred by Kaptein.

He bought Belturbet to race but she was injured after just three starts so he decided to breed from her.

Im Bella Jay was her the first foal he bred. Her first foal, Diamond Daze (1.58.6, $68K), who Kaptein sold as a yearling, won nine races including two at Gloucester Park.

Kaptein and Trewenack sold a pretty chestnut filly for $20,000 at the Perth Yearling Sale last year by Fly Like An Eagle from Im Bella Jay.

She is being prepared for her two-year-old campaign.
