Starofremembrance part of Medhurst’s expanding stable

Veteran trainer Paul Medhurst hopes his eight-year-old mare Starofremembrance (Betterthancheddar) can open her winning account for the 2025 season when she lines up in the Fehlbergs Produce Sprintlane Pace (2090m) in Hobart on Friday night.

.

The mare has been placed in three of her nine starts this season and, in the past 16 months, has accumulated her connections over $9,800 in stake earnings.

The daughter of Betterthancheddar has been placed in her last two outings. Both efforts have been on the Hobart track.

“She is starting to work her way back into a bit of form. She is no world-beater but keeps plugging away.

“She has won just over $87,000 and is a good little money spinner, and the biggest part of her is that she tries. I have had horses in the past with more ability, but they never tried as hard as she does,” said Medhurst.

Ricky Duggan has been booked for the drive on Friday, where she has drawn barrier four in the 10-horse field.

“She just needs a bit of luck early. She doesn’t have a lot of gate speed, but if she can lob in the one-out line, she will be competitive, I think.

“She goes better when the speed is on.

“She used to have a good turn of foot once, but with a bit of age on her, she stays better than she sprints.

“I don’t know why it is, but she doesn’t run the last corner in Hobart that good, but once she straightens up, she always finds a bit when she straightens up.

Medhurst will be kept busy in the seasons to come after purchasing three horses with stable clients from the recent Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale, including a Poster Boy colt from A Few Dollars More for $21,000, a Raging Bully filly from Beach Box for $10,000 and a Rock N Roll Heaven filly from Three Secrets for $6,000.

Medhurst and clients were part of a Tasmanian contingent that supported the sale.
