It was a standard race meeting at Penrith on Sunday night however many heads were turned when in Race 4 – a NR up to 60 event – the first two quarters were run in 28 seconds.

So much so, Harness Racing New South Wales Stewards launched an inquiry into the driving tactics on the two initial leaders.

Reinsman Lleyton Green was driving Kezzamac and urged his drive forward from barrier one.

Fellow junior driver Seaton Grima had similar ideas with his drive Silly Sid from barrier two.

After a lead time of 7.5 seconds, the tempo escalated with the first quarter run in 28.8 seconds followed by the second sectional of 28.5 seconds.

Subsequently, following the slick early tempo, both runners finished at the tail of the field with Silly Sid second last and Kezzamac last of the 10-horse field.

The stewards’ inquiry has been adjourned.

There were only three drivers that won at that Penrith meeting with Gavin Fitzpatrick, Josh Gallagher and Jack Callaghan driving a treble each.
