Strange as it seems, Emma Stewart will be chasing a first during one of South Australia’s biggest harness racing programs of the season.
A regular competitor during the state’s major meetings, the Victorian trainer is also a frequent visitor to the winners’ circle as she appears to claim features at will.
Boasting a phenomenal strike rate at Globe Derby, Stewart has had 142 starts which have netted an incredible 84 wins and 27 placings for a bankroll of $1,190,425.
Stewart’s haul includes the SA Pacing Cup, Derby and Oaks, The Allwood and a string of Southern Cross Finals.
Amazingly, each of Stewart’s victories have been with pacers, though it should be noted the record-breaking horsewoman has had very few squaregaiters race in Adelaide.
Stewart was represented by Hesallmuscle in a Trotters’ Cup heat last week, with the son of Muscle Hill earning a berth in the Group Three Final after finishing second behind local, My Used To Be.
“It was only brought to my attention last week I’d never won with a trotter over there,” Stewart said. “It’s something I hadn’t given much thought to as we haven’t really sent many trotters over.
“Hesallmuscle did well last week and is sure to strip fitter this time around which will make him hard to beat.”
First-up from a 10-week spell, Hesallmuscle began from a 20-metre handicap – the same obstacle he faces on Saturday night.
The gelding won five of his six starts before being sent to a paddock.
“Like I said, he had a good break before the heat, so he was in need of the run,” Stewart said. “He has derived plenty from it and will fitter again in the Final.”
