Rarely without representation during South Australia’s feature carnivals, record-breaking harness racing horsewoman Emma Stewart will be in the thick of the action when she returns to Globe Derby this week.
Boasting a phenomenal strike rate at the venue, Stewart has had 138 starts which have netted an incredible 82 wins and 26 placings for a bankroll of $1,178,956.
Of those wins – which represent a victory at every 1.6 starts – Stewart is yet to score with a trotter, something she hopes to rectify on Friday night.
Along with runners engaged in the Pacing Cup and Derby heats – features she has won in previous seasons – Stewart has Hesallmuscle (Muscle Hill) in a Trotting Cup qualifier.
“I hadn’t really thought of it, but no, I haven’t won with the trotter over there yet,” Stewart said. “I have to say ‘yet’ because I’m hoping to get the job done later in the week.”
First-up from a 10-week spell, Hesallmuscle won five of his six starts before being sent to a paddock.
One of three to begin from the 20-metre backmark, Hesallmuscle will be driven by in-form reinswoman Gaita Pullicino.
The son of Muscle Hill is a short-priced favourite.
“He hasn’t raced for a couple of months, but he is ready to go,” Stewart said. “The short break did him the world of good and his work has been very solid, so we’re expecting a good run from him.
“That said, whatever he does this week he will certainly improve on for the following start.”
