Honolua Bay (Somebeachsomewhere) has produced a huge harness racing performance to strike first in the Breeders Crown finals tonight at Tabcorp Park Melton.
The Emma Stewart trained pacer was too good in the first $50,000 final for four year old entires and geldings, but he needed to be good to win.
Driver David Moran settled Honolua Bay back in the running, before launching a three wide run with 800m to go and then grinding past the leaders in the straight to record a nice victory in a 1:54 mile rate for the 2240m mobile.
“He is a quality animal he just does it like he is in second gear,” Moran said after the race.
“He actually got on one rein a little bit around the last bend or he would have by a lot further,” he said.
The favourite Mach Dan stuck on well for second after leading and Jilliby Sylvester battled away for third after trailing.
