Quality New Zealand mare Stylish Memphis is one step closer to defending her title in harness racing’s Group 1 Ladyship Mile.
The $200,000 feature will take place at Menangle on February 26 and Stylish Memphis earned an invitation to the classic when taking out tonight’s Group 2 Sibelia Stakes at Menangle.
That was the daughter of Bettors Delight’s third win in as many starts this Australian campaign for horseman Jack Trainor.
“She’s three from three this time in and just feels terrific,” said Trainor.
“That run will top her off nicely for the Ladyship in a couple of weeks and I’ll just keep her ticking along between now and then.”
Trainor sat back in the field with Stylish Memphis and made his move on the five-year-old mare around the home turn.
Stylish Memphis overcame a final quarter of 26.6 seconds to beat her rivals by more than two metres in a rate of 1:50.6.
The first three sectionals were 26.7, 29.5 and 27.8 seconds with Our Cowgirls N Lace and Mona Mia filling the placings.
Stylish Memphis now has a record of 14 wins and 13 placings in 34 starts with earnings of $543,783.
