It is all systems go for one of Victoria’s leading Inter Dominion hopefuls Triple Eight.
After a below par performance in his latest effort where he finished last in the Melton City Council Sprint, reinsman Greg Sugars confirms the 16-time winner is back on track.
“His last run didn’t go to plan, we had him too fresh and he pulled really hard in the run and even in the warm up,” said Sugars.
“He’s been checked over and everything afterwards seems to be fine and he doesn’t have any issues.
“He’s back on track.”
Triple Eight is the third favourite to win the Inter Dominion Final behind King Of Swing and Expensive Ego.
“It’s been a dream of mine as a little kid to have a runner in the Inter Dominion and to have a live chance in the series as well,” said Sugars.
Triple Eight is trained by Jess Tubbs, Sugars’ partner.
The son of American Ideal will have to overcome his inside second row draw to be victorious in his Inter Dominion heat at Menangle on Saturday night.
It is a different starting configuration usually seen at the spacious 1400m circuit, with eight starters off the front instead of the usual 10 for the Inter Dominion series.
“Our draw makes it interesting,” said Sugars.
“It looks like we’ll be getting a soft trip on the inside which isn’t so bad for the first heat.”
Sugars has drives in four of the five Inter Dominion heats on the night and all have drawn the second row.
His other drives include Mach Dan in heat one drawn 15, trotter Maori Law drawn in 11 and Kyvalley Chief in nine.
“It won’t be easy for Mach Dan with how the cards have fallen for him with his draw but the distance helps, he’ll love the distance,” said Sugars.
“His last two runs have been as good as it gets and he’ll improve through the series we just hope for better luck with the draws.
“Maori Law is going really well and is a lovely horse that will suit the quick back up in racing.
“It will be hard for him to win from his draw but he’ll perform well.
“Kyvalley Chief will be suited from having a soft run from where he has drawn.”
