Chris Svanosio will represent Victoria for the first time after a late call-up to compete in this Saturday night’s Australian Harness Racing Drivers’ Championship in Launceston.
Svanosio has been selected to replace defending champion James Herbertson, who has decided to stay local and fulfil drives – including those in both pacing and trotting cups – at Geelong on the same night.
“It’s terrific to be representing Victoria,” Svanosio said.
“I haven’t had much time to think about it, but it’s a great honour.”
Svanosio, whose 679 winners in the sulky include six Group 1s, will be joined in Launceston by fellow Victorian Ellen Tormey.
Tormey landed the 1000th winner of her career at Melton last Wednesday night and, like Svanosio, will be making her first appearance in the Australian Drivers’ Championship.
