Sweet Lou filly following Mum’s footsteps

Steno achieved that when she saluted in the Group 1 APG Gold Bullion three-year-old final – a race Lady Waratah won in 2005 – at Menangle in May.

She showed she is on track to do it again when she scored in the fourth heat of the A Rocknroll Dance Breeders Crown Series for three-year-old fillies (2150m) at Bendigo on Friday night (Nov. 4).

Lady Waratah won the 2006 Breeders Crown three-year-old fillies final as part of a stunning career in which she won 20 of 36 starts.

Trained by Menangle-based Cameron Ross and driven Jack Callaghan, Steno led all the way to deny the stable of Emma Stewart a clean sweep of the three-year-old filliesā€™ heats.

She finished ahead of odds-on favourite Amore Vita, who was having her first start for Stewart.

Stewart won the other heats with Petillante, three-time Group 1 winner Encipher and Queensland Oaks champ Soho Historia.

That was just part of another massive night for the Stewart stable, which also won two heats of the Woodlands Stud Australia Breeders Crown Series for three-year-old colts and geldings (2150m).

Khafaji and Captain Ravishing, who produced the fastest mile rate of the heats with 1:54.2, were the first of her five winners for the meeting.

Four were driven by Mark Pitt.

Victoria Derby and Geelong Pacing Cup place-getter Interest Free was the other heat winner for Bendigo trainer Julie Douglas.

Stewartā€™s performance emulated her success in Breeders Crown three-year-old heats last year, when she also had three females and two males get the money.

Her team will have a major presence in the semi-finals, with all 19 of her heat runners progressing.

The series continues with the semi-final phase at Melton next Saturday, which paves the way for $200,000 finals at Melton a week later.
