Sweet overdue win for Michelle

Great Western horsewoman Michelle Wight cannot recall her last harness racing winner at Melton on a Saturday night. 

“It’s long enough that I can’t remember it,” Wight said. 

Wight instead is preferring to bask in the present after her mare Nosweetsforyou (A Rocknroll Dance) led all the way in the Alabar Metro Mares Pace at Melton. 

Sidelined through suspension, Wight handed the reins to Chris Svanosio who urged the four-year-old to hold the front running from the pole and was able to get a 30 sec ‘breather’ during the second quarter. 

A 27.8 back straight quarter had many of her rivals off the bit as Nosweetsforyou gave them the slip around the home turn and she had sufficient in reserve to score by two metres from the rank outsider Sassyola ($71).

Wight said the inside alley played an integral role in the win. 

“Things finally worked out for her, she got the good draw and was able to hold the lead and got to run along at her own tempo and let them chase her,” Wight said. 

“I was a little bit nervous of holding the lead as she isn’t the quickest out but looking at what was outside her I was hoping there was a chance that she would hold it, and if she did then we weren’t handing up,” she said. 

Wight admitted she was able to watch proceedings stress free from the grandstand. 

“I almost enjoyed it, Chris got to drive her in the Invitation Drivers Series at Horsham and got to know her,” she said.  

“He was spot on and did exactly what we asked and got the job done and I was happy to watch when that’s the result.”
