He was expected to win and that is what King Of Swing did in the opening heat of the Inter Dominion series at Tabcorp Park Menangle tonight.

The dual Miracle Mile champion was then $1.25 favourite and produced a performance just like his price suggested in the $30,000 qualifier.

King Of Swing winning a heat of the Inter Dominion at Menangle on Saturday night.

Reinsman Luke McCarthy never panicked and starting out of barrier three let the son of Rocknroll Hanover roll his way to the lead eventually where he remained.

The Jack Trainor-driven Boncel Benjamin burst to the front initially from barrier seven and the led time was rated in 56.2 seconds.

Once ‘The King’ found his way to the front the quarters were rolled through in 29.8, 29.9, 27.8 and 26.1 seconds, returning a mile rate of 1:53.9 – the track record for the 2400m is 1:52.7.

“That was great, he didn’t go too hard and rated that middle half just nice and finished off with quick sections,” said McCarthy.

“He can switch off the last 50 (metres) and I made him work to the line.

“He’s a funny horse, when one runs up to him he lifts up.”

It will be a relaxing campaign for King Of Swing as he heads into the next round of heats at Bathurst on December 1.

“He won’t need to do too much,” said McCarthy.

“He’ll just swim and water-walk and keep him off the track.”

Remarkable the Inter Dominion is one race McCarthy or his wife, trainer Belinda McCarthy, has not won.

“We haven’t won the Inter Dominion, it is the race we are after,” said Belinda.
